What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files stored on your device by your browser when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites function correctly and to remember your preferences.

Cookies we use

This website uses only strictly necessary cookies — those required to keep you signed in and to secure the sign-in process. We do not use any tracking, advertising, or analytics cookies:

NamePurposeDurationType
next-auth.session-tokenKeeps you signed in after you log in — whether as an attendee or as an administrator. Only set once you have signed in; it is never set for visitors who simply browse the public site.SessionStrictly necessary
next-auth.csrf-token
next-auth.callback-url
next-auth.state
Short-lived cookies used only during the sign-in process to protect against cross-site request forgery, to return you to the right page after login, and to secure the “Sign in with Google” flow. They are cleared once sign-in completes.Temporary (sign-in only)Strictly necessary

Cookies we do not use

We do not use any of the following:

  • Analytics or performance cookies (e.g. Google Analytics)
  • Advertising or targeting cookies
  • Social media tracking cookies
  • Any third-party cookies set by external services

Do I need to consent?

No. Because every cookie we set is strictly necessary for the website to function (keeping you signed in and securing the sign-in process), we are not required to obtain your consent under UK GDPR or the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR). These cookies are only set once you sign in — visitors who simply browse the public-facing website are not given any cookies.

Note: if you choose “Sign in with Google”, you are briefly redirected to Google to authenticate. Google sets its own cookies on Google's own websites during that process; those cookies are controlled by Google and governed by Google's cookie policy, not by us.

Managing cookies

You can control and delete cookies through your browser settings. Please note that disabling these cookies will prevent you from logging in to your attendee account or the admin area. Deleting cookies will sign you out of any active session.

For guidance on managing cookies in your browser, visit aboutcookies.org.
